Frances and Brian

Frances and Brian come for dinner. They have visited us, when I was very little, but mama forgot to make a photo. Today we won't forget that! Brian will plant some nice little apple trees before our house, not today, but later.

Today is a sticky day, and we are sitting in the hot sun. But who is complaining? Not us!

And certainly not me, because I get to run around naked!

Summer market

We are just going for some grocery shopping, but then we come into the Summer market. In the summer on Thursdays there are Summer Markets in my new town. A bit of fun, while we are hunting nice second hand toys.

There is also a merry-go-round. It looks nice, but once I am sitting in it, I don't like it. I sit on the motor bike and cry. Then we start turning and that is kind of ok.

Luckily the merry-go-round man gave us two tickets for the price of one. The second turn we sit in the truck. Much nicer. I look around now, and see that there are flashing lights and music. Actually, this is kind of interesting.

Fries, sand and mayonaise

After day care, on the spur of the moment, we decide to have dinner on the beach. First we play in the waves like we did last Thursday. And then we eat mussels with friet. Here I eat my fries with sand and mayonaise. It feels like holiday.

Avifauna

There is a bird zoo in my new town, Avifauna. Grandma's and grandpa's go there. But what the heck, we go there too! On the bicycle, that is how close it is. I like birds: they are so lively, and some are real large too! You can walk where the birds walk.

While we watch the bird show, where the ara's fly over your head, I eat ice cream. This is my first ice cream and I love it! Especially on a hot day like today.

Bamboo

This is my papa. These days he works very hard to clear the bamboo from our garden. Now we get some Sun in our kitchen and we can plant some nice flowers to look at from the kitchen. There are all sorts of surprises in our garden: behind the bamboo there was a big hole: we need a cubic meter sand to fill it up!

I wave to my papa whenever I can. In fact, I say 'papa' whenever I wave. Is there a difference between papa and waving?

There is one other word I know. That is 'Kareltje lezen'. This is what we do before I go to bed: we read about Kareltje, he is a little rabbit with a papa rabbit. Kareltje doesn't want to go to bed, but then his papa starts the house shoe express train, which brings Kareltje to a station called Beddelen, where Kareltjes bed is. I like reading, and Kaka, means reading.

The Katwijkse Beach

It is Summer! We have to go to the beach, my mama says. My first day on the beach.

Wow, I love the beach! First I was a bit scared, but now I love it.

Today is very warm, but along the water it is nice. I like the water and the waves. My mama holds my hands and I run around.

I go deeper and deeper. But then suddenly the waves were a bit high, and I didn't like that. But my mama picked me up and dropped me in the shallows again.

And off I went again. I studied how shells are carried in and out of the water by the waves. And how water splashes under your feet.

The only thing we didn't bring is a ball. On the beach and no ball? I hold on to the ball of our neighboors! They are a friendly bunch and let me have it, they see I really want it.

When we go home mama and papa are burnt, but I am not with my factor 50.

Flower girls

In the evenings, still in our office clothes, we usually play in the garden, because we get the nice evening sun. I have a new game: I put leaves on mama's hair. Leaves and parts of leaves. I always hope mama puts a leave on my hair too. But then it falls so quickly, when I move my head. I like being a flower girl. Other than that we run around a bit and play with the balls or the rabbits.

City beach

We don't want to go far, but it is a nice day and just a day to do something fun. Right behind my day care my papa has discovered a real 'City Beach', sooo fashionable.

We didn't think it would be this warm, so we are not wearing our beach wear. On the picture it is not warm yet, but later has become warm. Just with bare feet in the water it is, then.

I think it is good fun, our City Beach: there are big swans, algae in the water, water to splash your feet in, sand, plants on the shore and pebbles everywhere. And it is quiet. Just us.

Riding my horse

This is how Simon showed me you should ride my horse. You climb on it and then you fall off it sideways. And then you climb on it again. I do what he did yesterday, and indeed, it is good fun!

Aunt Klara and Unkle Ronald

So much family! My great aunt Klara and Unkle Ronald are visiting us from Germany (or was it Switzerland?). Aunt Klara has made beautiful warm socks for Simon and me. That is an art!

It has been my grandmothers birthday too, everybody comes together to celebrate. Simon too, of course! He and I have bitten in the hamburgers and think: better to play! Simon shows my how to ride my horse and both of us want to ride the car.

But later we eat our raisins in peace and we play our favourite game: sitting together.

A new phase

A new phase has started for my mama and papa: I can climb on the side of the water pond. They are always around when I am in the garden, but now they sit real close. I love climbing, and I love climbing on the side of the pond even better: now I can get my hands wet! Or my t-shirt.

Rollebolle

I now can imitate what other people do. If my papa stamps with his feet, then I can do the same. And if he plays his game of 'elbows on the table', then I can do the same too.

But the rollebolle game I invented and my papa and mama imitate me. It is my most favourate game at the moment. It is best played in the soft grass on a sunny afternoon. It means you put your hands and feet in the air, then you roll on to your belly and on to your back again. Feet up in the air!!

The bed is also a good spot for this game. See the rabbits in the background? They love the fresh grass.

My step chair

My mama and papa have bought me a chair. It is so handy to stand on. Now I can really help cooking and look into the pots and pans. I take my chair everywhere and then use it so I reach further. Handy!!

Lucas and Jonas

Today was another fun day! It was such beautiful weather, and my cou-cou-cou-cousins visited me. They are Lucas and Jonas, and my mama and their papa are cou-cou-cousins. That means we are family, but just a bit far away. Lucas and Jonas live in Switzerland, but they are on holiday in Holland and visit us. They are very good walkers and runners, so we go by foot to the archeological open air museum in our town. I sit in the buggy, and play my newest game: feet in the air!!

The open air museum has all sorts of houses, also an glacier stone house. It is a low house and I have to bend when I walk. My mama thought it was cosy too! Lucas and Jonas run around the place and climb.

At all the houses that we visit I make a study of the grounds: sand, sand with shells, sand with small stones. And I do a lot of climbing too. Would that be the Swiss in me?

We also use an old method ferry and Lucas and Jonas are the ferrymen. I liked the ferry very much: I ran back but my papa caught me just before I was back at the water.

Later we kids all tried to climb into the canoe, and this time my mama stopped me. Hmmm, I wanna be a big girl!!

Back home we play in my backyard and I show them a game I invented two days ago. It is called Rollebolle and it means you roll over the grass with your feet up in the air. I play this game all the time now. And everywhere. It makes me see the world upside down.

Fun day

I had such a fun day today. In the morning my mama and I cycle to the market. This is the first time we see the market, but they have good vegetables. At home I eat lots of mango and strawberries from the market. We get a rain shower on the market, it is inevitable these days. We shelter and the man gives me candy. Apart from the rain, it was a lot of fun.

In the afternoon, the rain has ceased and we go to the children's zoo. I found the chickens a bit scary, they wanted the corns I had in my hand, and they all came standing around me. In the picture you see a cheeky chicken sitting next to the corn dispenser. But there was a slide in the playground too. And a wobble chicken to sit on. I didn't know such fun things existed!

And we had early dinner, and after dinner I showed papa my coat. This means: Come on! Let's make another ride on the bicycle!! Mama says Yes, that is a good idea! So, for the third time this day we mount our bikes. The wind is strong and mama has to hold on to the steering wheel firmly. She says: Stop Ces, don't toss yourself from left to right! I have a hard time holding the wheel as it is!!

Through the rain

I don't like my red rain cap, but today I put it on myself. I am not sure myself what came over me, but it sure is nice to wear a rain cap when you are cycling through the rain.

My papa and mama have business in the town hall. I run around and look at the other Alphenians.

The rain

The good weather is over. It is july and we get 'tropical rains'. My papa has to smoke in the rain, and I have to stay in. I like playing in our garden, but it cannot be now.

Birthday Loes

Last Sunday my cousine Loes celebrated her birthday. She is four already!! As always on Loes's birthday we sat in her back yard - because the sun always shines on her birthday. I had just recovered from my illness, but was not really all that well yet. But granddad gave a red sportscar to Loes's brother Koen. That was such a fun car!! I showed Koen what to do with the car!!
Loes was also not feeling too well, but she was happy examining the big red fire engine.
Later papa and mama held Koen. Strange, they should only hold me! I want to be the only child they hold.

Drinking milk

After breakfast I get a bottle of milk. I drink my bottle in my chair. This chair is special for milk drinking. If I want milk, I sit in it. I can't talk, but this my papa and mama understand. Sometimes I try this halfway during the day too, but then they say: Nooo, Francesca. And I climb out again.

When my bottle is finished, I'll throw it on the floor. Ready!! Or I try to draw milk drawings on the floor. Good fun!!

The wabbits on the run

Every night we let the rabbits run. I like that, but when I run to them, they run away. But sometimes they are curious. And I am curious too of course. And sometimes they let them be picked up by me.

They are very sweet, they suffer everything in silence.

Being ill and the phone

I have been ill the last two days. It is from the jabs from last week and now I have the measles. Well, very mildly, but I don't feel well. My mama and papa try to keep my diverted with the garden beans and mama's phone.

I love mama's phone. I know it can make songs and beeps and it has buttons to press. Today I found out that you can make it sing inside my mouth as well. That feels funny!!

Splashing sand

I am wearing my pretty dress today with the white shirt. Not so white shirt after breakfast. But it is a sunny day, so who cares?

I am playing in my sand box. There are clumps of sand. When I squash them between my fingers, the sand splashes around. That is fun! I have my face in concentration of that.

But sometimes I look up too.

The sun comes up in Teletubbie Land

I love watching tv. I know that if you press buttons on the black remote, the tv pops on and then the fun is on! Mama gives me a fake remote, so the tv doesn't jump pictures all the time.

But the best I like is the Teletubbies. I can watch a full episode without problems. With all the repeats. When I see the Sunbaby I laugh back at him, and when the windmill blows I shake my head. The rest I watch in full concentration.

Pluis and Stinkie

And suddenly they appeared in my house! Oh, this is exciting. Our first meeting was not such a success. I was so enthusiastic, I ran screaming to them. They got very scared and hid in their bedroom and then I had to cry because they were gone.

But now we are both much better: I am more gentle and they are less scared. Sometimes we let them run free in a part of our living room. That is very funny: they run and jump!

I still have to learn how to handle them, but that will come. In the mean time papa and mama discuss what sort of outdoor cage they are going to have and where and what. Hmmm, that is a project.
