The Queen's Birthday

Queen Beatrix celebrates her birthday and everybody celebrates with her.

Mama and I are up early and walk along the road where people flog their redundant things: one's rubbish is next one's treasure - or you hope so.

Mama is very good: she only buys some books, some cloths for me and just one vase.

Mariet

Mariet lives in the next door holdiday home, with Saskia and Rosa. Mariet always comes to look me up.

A long time ago she held her own daughter in her arms. Saskia is now grown up and mama herself, of Rosa.

My parents call Mariet, Saskia and Rosa "the three ladies", gardening ladies that is.

Daisies with mama

Mama and I are enjoying a rest in a field with daisies. Mama thinks I am a bit too young to be sleeping like this, but for the photo I can be outside for a while. I am enjoying the light play. Mama is sneezing ... she doesn't like lying in the grass.

Diane

Diane is visiting. It is a very hot day and I bare my legs.

Bird's Nests

Today mama and I go to the holiday house again. Mama is juggling maxi-cosi and pram into the car. This time I am sitting on the front seat, so mama is less nervous: she can look at me while driving. This may not be so safe either.

It is still hot and it hasn't rained for a long time. Mama needs to water the tree that I got from Saskia and Mariet and the rose bush that I got from Karen.

We are waiting for the little swans and herons! Can you see the 3 nests in the picture on the right?

You can click on the picture to see it large size.

Grossmuettie / Gran'ma

Today Grandma is visiting us.
We walk around the neighbourhood and are offered a drink by the neighbourhood-initiave "Bakkie in de buurt" (a cuppa in the 'hood).

I didn't like going to the supermarket: it was much too cold inside. But here on the square in the sunshine I am most content.

At home Grandma insists on vacuum cleaning the house, and I sleep on that sound even better. Grandma tells us, that her mother, my great-grandmother, used to vaccum clean as well with the same sleeping effect on the young Grandma.

Pink

Today I am wearing my pink dress that Aunt Hannie gave me. It is the most comfortable dress I can imagine.
Underneath it I wear the Aussie socks that Manfred and Inez gave me.

Rokaya

Today we go back to were I first saw the light: the maternity ward in hospital. Our neighbour Mick has given birth to her little girl Rokaya, exactly two weeks after I was born. The same doctor brought her in the world, who brought me in the world!!

Mama and I visit them. The nurses still recognise me and say that I have grown into a healthy big girl! But I am hungry and troughout the visit, mama has to nurse me!

Don't you think Rokaya looks like a princess?

Unsettled

Today we are a bit sad and unsettled. It may be a coincidence, but today Daddie had to go back to work. Mummy thinks I miss the warm shoulder to fall asleep against. Mummie smells too much of food to think of sleep. I am used to hear them talking and miss that sound.

We go for a stroll around the block and take a nice warm bath and by the evening I am more settled.

I am a big girl!

Today it is official: I have outgrown my first suit. Mama bought this for me when she was in Ireland while pregnant. It says "Un Papillon pour les fleurs" (a butterfly for the flowers) and it was my favourite.

But today papa put me on the scales and I have grown 400 grams above my birth weight. And my papillon suit is too tight.

The Sinai travellers

Karen and Wybe visit us today. It is still summer, we all try to squeeze in the little strip of shade or we hide under hats.

Karen and Wybe brought me a real arabic singing camel.

Sleeping under the willow tree

Summer at the Vecht

Today was a big day. For the first time I visit our weekend house.

In the morning Mama and Papa put me in the Maxi-Cosi and we drove to the Vecht. Mama was very nervous if I was doing ok and turned in her chair to look at me at every street corner. I, off course, can't remember the drive, because I fell asleep from the driving.

When we were there, I slept in the shade of the willow tree. It was very peacefull and only the bird's chitter-chatter was heard.

It became a very warm day, it felt like Summer and it is only early spring. Papa and mama had to change all my clothes because of the heat.

Jim and Naomi visit me, but Mum and Dad forget to make a picture (again...).

Late in the afternoon Aunt Hannie, Uncle Frank (he wants to be called Francesco, but that is because he is envious of my name!), and my nephew Simon visit. Simon is now nearly 6 months old and MUCH MUCH taller than I am. He goes to child care already and knows all about the big world.

Dick and Jacqueline

Uncle Dick and Jacqueline are on their way to a weekend on Texel. They stop to visit me. Jacqueline is always so pretty.

more daddie and me

Daddie has been at home all this time. He knows exactly what I want when I cry, whether it is a cuddle, warmer clothes, clean diapers, or mummy's food. And he whistles tunes at my bed side to get me to sleep.

My first stroll

I am for the first time outdoors. It is a beautifully sunny day.

Mama and Papa are very happy and I fall sound asleep.

The support team

The first week Mama and I get help and health check ups from Ariska and Astrid.
Ariska (picture left) is the obstetrician and Astrid (picture below) is the maternity nurse.
I love both of them.

My street

I live in a square in Amsterdam. Now it is spring here and everybody is happy. On the square the boys are playing football.

In the garden behind my house the appletree is in blossom.

And everywhere you can see the japanese cherries, like here on the Jozef Israelskade in Amsterdam (thank you, Saskia for this photo).

Daddie and me

In my own bed

Finally in my own bed, all is quiet now.

Notice the glitter drape that mama made for me.

cousin Loesje

I have had many visitors in the hospital - only mum and dad forgot to photograph them.

They didn't forget a picture of my uncle Daan, auntie Jule and my cousin Loesje.

Franka

My great-grandmother Franka is very proud.
And I am proud of my father washing me!

Me again

Because I am the prettiest girl in town, several pictures of me.

Jose

This is my friend Jose. He washed me when I was born.

He calls me naturally talented because I drink so good. Sometimes he teases me, when I fall asleep before I drink.

The first morning

The next morning I wake up, full of wonder of this world.
